Our small group discussion this morning looked into church history which shows the church in decline after the book of Acts until the lowest point is reached with the church at Thyatira — the institutionalized, bureaucratic church. Although they excelled at good works, they tolerated a woman who taught and seduced the Lord’s servants to commit adultery and sexual immorality. After that period, reformers began to restore truth, symbolized by the church at Sardis, followed by the faithful church and, eventually, the lukewarm church like the one at Laodicea.
